I took a Saturday walk up 8th Ave in Manhattan to find a pleasant surprise – a bazaar lasting several blocks (from 42nd Street up to Columbus Circle). Here was the joy of NYC venders mixed with various foods (including fried ice cream) giving the event a “county fair” feel but NYC style. From there I headed eastward enjoying the architecture along the way, then taking the tram to Roosevelt Island where there is a majestic view of the Manhattan skyline. Once back I head “home” by way of the UN where I saw (but do not show) a film being shot not far from the Trump International Building.

Throughout this clip you will see locations of several films such as Taxi Driver, Midnight Cowboy, Spider-Man, City Slickers and others. Roosevelt Island is also featured in film – most notably it was the location in part for the classic horror film, The Exorcist (as well as The Heretic: Exorcist 2). This may be fitting because an asylum for the mentally disturbed and abandoned hospital for smallpox were both located on Roosevelt Island.

The Island offers a beautiful view of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, the city of Manhattan, and a mormoral to FDR for whom the island gets its name.
